FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Who would benefit from anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular choices for cosmetic treatment for people who wish to reduce wrinkles, forehead lines, or frown lines around their eyes.
This procedure is becoming increasingly popular with younger people as a preventive measure, stopping lines appearing in the first place.

Is there a consultation before this treatment commences?

Yes. You can only undergo treatment following a one-on-one examination with a qualified nurse during which a full assessment will be carried out and list of contraindications and cautions discussed.

What does the treatment involve?

The procedure involves a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take a few minutes.

Will it hurt?

While you may experience some mild discomfort with the injections the needles used are tiny, and the procedure is mainly pain-free. Annamarie is incredibly tender and caring.
You may notice some temporary soreness at the injection site directly after the treatment, but this passes typically very quickly.

Are the injections safe?

Botulinum toxin A has been in medical use for over 40 years, and we administer it in such a way that it only affects the muscles and sweat glands and does not reach any other part of the body.
With anti-wrinkle injections prescribed and administered by a skilled and qualified medical professional the risks are extremely minimal.

What happens after my treatment?

Following your treatment, you will be able to go about your day in your usual way although we do advise avoiding strenuous activity, saunas and other facial procedures for the first 24hrs.
After 4-10 days you will notice an improvement in your lines/wrinkles, and this result will last approximately 3-4 months.

What areas can benefit from anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are most effective when used to reduce the signs of ageing in the following places:
  • Forehead/brow
  • Between the eyes
  • Sides of the eyes
Injections can also be used for:
  • Excess sweating
  • Gummy smile
  • Pain from teeth grinding

How long do the effects of anti-wrinkle injections last?

The results usually last for three to four months, after which you may wish to return for another treatment.

What are the possible side effects?

Most side effects are short-lived and mild, the most common being mild bruising to the site of the injection. Some patients also report mild headaches shortly after the treatment, but these usually subside within 24 hours.

Are there any circumstances under which I should not have this treatment?

You should not have this treatment if:

  • The injection site is infected
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neuromuscular disorder (e.g. myasthenia gravis).
  • Esther will discuss all safety issues with you during your consultation.

Aftercare

Keeping your facial muscles active after the procedure will help the treatment to take effect. Try to avoid any unnecessary touching of your face during the 24 hour period directly afterwards. Do not consume any alcohol or pain medication immediately after the anti-wrinkle procedure and avoid air travel for 48 hours. We do not recommend undergoing any electrical rejuvenation treatments in the week following your Botox treatment.
